Africville Videos on Demand
Africville was a vibrant community established in 1848 by William Brown Sr. & William Arnold on the shores of the Bedford Basin, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Africville was a totally independent community for 100 years: the community paid municipal taxes but never receive the full amenities as the rest of the city of Halifax. Because of the neglect of Africville by the city of Halifax after the Second World War to the early 1960's the city decided to physically destroy the community of Africville instead of supporting and renovating Africville so that it would exist today. This series of video depict The 25th Africville Reunion & Festival held on the original grounds of Africville in 2008. Here are some the highlights of this historic 9 day event.
